چکیده

The effect of metal ions and chemical solvents on the adsorption of Salmonella phage isolated from sewage water on Salmonella choleraesuis subspecies indica showed how they interfere in the phage-host interaction process in the aquatic systems. Already the studies regarding the effect of metal ions had been done, but still the adsorption properties of different phages differ with ionic concentration. In present experiment, we used different concentrations to study their effect on phage-host interaction. It was observed that the concentration that supports higher phage adsorption gives higher plaque count and there is also a possibility of enhancement and/or irregular phage infection in presence of some heavy metals and chemical solvents. The presented work deals with the role of different metal ions and chemical solvents at lower concentration on the adsorption and infection process of bacteriophages to their hosts. The data generated from these studies is helpful in understanding the impact of different metals and chemical compounds on the microbial growth and behavior in aquatic systems. Understanding carbon regulation in aquatic systems - Bacteriophages as a model

The bacteria and their phages are the most abundant constituents of the aquatic environment, and so represent an ideal model for studying carbon regulation in an aquatic system. The microbe-mediated interconversion of bioavailable organic carbon (OC) into dissolved organic carbon (DOC) by the microbial carbon pump (MCP) has been suggested to have the potential to revolutionize our view of carbo...

Salmonella choleraesuis subsp. indica serovar bornheim causing urinary tract infection.

An unusual Salmonella species, S. choleraesuis subsp. indica serovar bornheim, was isolated from the urine of a patient with aplastic anemia, diabetes mellitus, and a healed urethral injury. An immune response to this isolate was demonstrated by whole-bacterial-cell agglutination.

Application of bacteriophages to control Salmonella Enteritidis in raw eggs

Background: Salmonella, a bacterial genus of more than 2500 serotypes is considered as the most significant foodborne pathogen causing infections in humans and animals. Increased antimicrobial resistance and persistence of antimicrobial residues in food matrices warrants the need for alternative infection management strategies. Aims: The present study aimed to isolate and evaluate the lytic act...

Use of Isolation and Antibody Detection for Salmonella Assessment

Salmonella infections of swine are of concern for two major reasons. The first is the clinical disease (salmonellosis) in swine that may result, and the second is that swine can be infected with a broad range of Salmonella serovars that can be a source of contamination of pork products. The genus Salmonella is morphologically and biochemically homogeneous group of Gram-negative, motile, non-spo...
